Another one bites the dust...

--------------------------------------------

Rantissi was a hardliner and a firebrand orator
The head of the militant Islamic movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Abdul Aziz Rantissi, has been killed in an attack on his vehicle.
Mr Rantissi was driving his car in a Gaza suburb as an Israeli helicopter fired missiles at it, witnesses say.

At least two other people were also killed and several more wounded.

The attack came hours after a suicide bomber killed himself and an Israeli soldier at the Erez checkpoint just north of the city.

The BBC's Peter Greste, in Gaza City, says people are speculating that the attack was in response to the suicide bombing.

The militant Hamas leader was one of Israel's top targets after it assassinated Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmed Yassin in an airstrike last month.

'Israeli crime'

The Palestinian Authority condemned the killing of Abdel-Aziz al-Rantissi, accusing Israeli of "state terror".

"We condemn in the strongest possible terms this Israeli crime and state terror," he said.

"It is evident now to the world that the Palestinian people need international protection more than ever," Palestinian cabinet minister Saeb Erekat told Reuters.

Mr Rantissi was one of the most forceful spokesmen against compromise with Israel.

He described himself as one of seven founders of Hamas and was considered second in importance only to Sheikh Yassin

Khaled Meshaal - Hamas' politburo chief in exile - was declared the group's overall leader after Yassin was killed.

Good, I hope he suffered in his last minutes - regardless, it must suck finally realizing there are not 50 virgins waiting to greet him in the afterlife.

I think that those who practice terrorism, whether it is state-ordained by Israel or whether it is ordained by a Palestinian group, should be removed from this Earth.

Just a thought...how would you feel if the Cubans invaded the southern half of Florida to kill some people they label "terrorists" and then they said well we aren't leaving because we need a security buffer zone. Then some Cubans in Havana say "enough of this shithole lets go to Miami and set up camps with hundreds of homes". Then when it becomes clear that they won't get invaded, Fidel decides that he can't pull back because now his people have too much invested in Florida so he is just going to give back half of what he took and fortify what he keeps further with a 15 foot wall.

Now I know it would never happen, but come on that is exactly what happened here. I am not anti-Semite and I surely don't support terrorists of either side, but lets face reality here. You can't go in and invade your neighbor and then keep his land without having shit to pay for. Israel needs to give up what they took and stop stalling. They always come up with one or two little niggly details that prevent a deal from being finished. I think it is clear that the military runs the government and country and they see that a good peace deal would sink half their needs and strip them of most of their power. Their arguments of being subject to invasion is getting silly. When a country has about 10 times the per capita income of its neighbors, the neighbors don't want to invade, they want to come there and work for you. Bush should have just told Sharon enough is enough, you guys get out of Gaza now, get out of the West Bank soon, and forget your settlers. Most of them are wealthy by Palestinian standards and could potentially be key pieces to a Palestinian economy if they choose to remain there after handover of territories. People all thought whites would be marginalized in South Africa after apartheid, but look at just how many people in the ANC are white now! While there is plenty of religious fervor in some of the people living there, most people just want to live a comfortable life and couldn't care less if their neighbor or coworker goes to a synagogue or a mosque after work. These are the unfortunate victims of this mess. Then again who knows how different the world stage would be if the whole situation was solved quickly. Only people that have any interest in this continuing are the Israeli hawks, mostly military heads, and Hamas. Why do we let them be the winners in all this for decades?

The diplomatic situation is polarised too, although the press has downplayed it.

On the one hand there's Georgie and Israel rampaging around the middle east and causing chaos. Making it up as they stumble along.

Whereas europe is sticking rigidly to a non-interventionist stance in Iraq and the pre-1967 borders in Palestine.

Did anyone know that the EU foreign ministers all met in Ireland this week and issued a joint statement?

---------------------------------
At the end of a two-day meeting at Tullamore, Ireland, EU foreign ministers said the roadmap "represents the only route" to peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

In a joint statement, the ministers said the EU "will not recognise any change to the pre-1967 borders [between Israel and the West Bank] other than those arrived at by agreement between the parties".

Yeah , good old wildbill has it right?

Sure Israel is going to give back land to what ahab or holloween costume group.

Lets see the ahabs are very smart. They attacked a country smaller than the size of New Jersey on one of their holy days back in the '60's.The ahabs lost the war in what ever 7 days then the dirty scum wrapped towel waving ahabs say Israel cheated, we want our land back.It seems to me Israel has ALWAYS instigated tensions and war.Yeah right.

Now that Israel has a hit list with 32 SMART ONES---on it, the Palestinians are starting to make their own grave yard.

Besides if Israel didn't kill dr. Hamas, he would have blown himself up next week.

What's next? Israel has something special for the holloween costume people.

When ALL the MUSLIM people are tortured, killed, made into soap,or falafel sandwiches EVERYBODY WILL BE AT PEACE.Until then, keep the deaths moving up in numbers and GOD PLEASE HELP US all---KILL EVERY MUSLIM MOTHER AND THEIR BABY TERRORISTS!

Let the blood keep flowing it is spring time.

thank you to all arabs, you are getting Americans and others to really like you.As my boss has said over and over a good muslim/ahab is a DEAD ONE all broken up.

I think it's time for Genocidal George "to enforce UN resolutions"

http://www.why-war.com/news/2002/10/02/unresolu.html

"In addition to the dozen or so resolutions currently being violated by Iraq, a conservative estimate reveals that there are an additional 91 Security Council resolutions about countries other than Iraq that are also currently being violated."Editor's Note: In its effort to justify its planned invasion of Iraq, the Bush administration has emphasized the importance of enforcing UN Security Council resolutions. However, in addition to the dozen or so resolutions currently being violated by Iraq, a conservative estimate reveals that there are an additional 91 Security Council resolutions about countries other than Iraq that are also currently being violated. This raises serious questions regarding the Bush administration's insistence that it is motivated by a duty to preserve the credibility of the United Nations, particularly since the vast majority of the governments violating UN Security Council resolutions are close allies of the United States. Stephen Zunes , University of San Francisco professor and Middle East Editor for Foreign Policy in Focus (online at www.fpif.org),compiled the following partial list of UN resolutions that are currently being violated by countries other than Iraq.

I don't think it has much to do with the UN at the moment.

The US seems to have been suckered into a middle east war by GWB.

If you add up the bits.

Dodgy UN resolutions/vetos stuff.
The Palestinian/Israeli farce.
Illegal Iraq invasion.

You guys are at war now, a huge urban war in the Middle east.

Bill, at times I must question your sanity. Arab nations started 4 wars against Israel; 1948, 1956, 1967 and 1973. Each time Israel won, and each time Israel gave back most of the land they won. Shouldn't 4 invasions in 50 years allow the attacked country a security buffer?

The comment regarding Arabs only wanting to work for Israel is laughable. Haven't you read the Arab newspapers discuss what they would like to do with the Jews? Do you know what they teach their children about the Jews? They typically call for DESTRUCTION of Israel, not CONSTRUCTION of Israel.

The problems in the Middle East have been caused primarily by the Arab nations. Imagine the consequences if Israel completely disarmed. How long would Israel last as a country? Now imagine the consequences if the Arab nations surrounding Israel disarmed. Would Israel invade, or would we have peace in the middle east?

I am glad that they killed that terrorist because who knows how many Jewish and Muslim lives would have been saved. Muslim lives in the sense of Hamas using mentally challenged people to commit suicide bombings like the most recent incident with a 16 year old Palestinian.

Unfortunately, killing the most recent leader of Hamas won't necessarily cut off the head of the snake. In this type of situation, a new head will appear but this time will be much more anonymous.

I don't see how killing this man does anything but help the peace process.

From msnbc.com:
Rantisi also told journalists that day, “My priority is to unite the Palestinians in the trenches of resistance because there is no one left who believes in something called the peace process.”

Rantisi, Yassin and five other men founded Hamas in 1987 at the start of a first uprising against Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The group grew into one of the region’s largest militant Islamic factions and called for a Muslim Middle East without a Jewish state.

In the early 1990s, at the start of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks that Hamas opposed, the group pioneered suicide bombings in Israel. During the current conflict, which has lasted more than three years, the group has killed hundreds of Israelis in suicide bombings and shooting attacks.

Eek,
I'm on your side (the non-fictional God sponsored genocide or mankind) ...

my point was that Sharron is marching around ordering strike after strike because Genocidal Georgie has decided that "The Roadmap to Peace" isn't what God wants ... instead he's supporting "selective murder (with the intent to minimize civilian murders with those selective murdres)."

In other words, Isreal has just kicked off a big high tech terrorist attack on Palestine and doesn't have to answer to anyone because the "good ol'" US of A mafia "has their back."

Lander,

I don't think that the US supported Sharon with the recent strike. Remember that Ariel Sharon is having problems within his government regarding corruption allegations. Maybe this missile strike is a way to stall his accusations. Remember when President Bill Clinton ordered massive bombings in Bosnia right after the Monica Lewinsky accusations came about. Nevertheless, I believe what he did was justified because this Hamas leader is a terrorist.

This is just speculation but I researched in CNN's website's internal news search engine.

Your way of reasoning is a great way for people to see the other side of the story. Bring the story home to see how we would react if this happened to us.

On another note, countries with 10 times per capita income of its neighbors have been successful in "acquiring" land from its neighbors. One example would be to look at Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California.

U.S. refrains from criticism
The Bush administration declined to criticize Rantisi’s killing, saying instead that Israel has the right to defend itself from terrorist attacks and urging Palestinians to use restraint in responding.

'The End of Dreams'
Ariel Sharon's new initiative, endorsed by President Bush, is a scheme to better manage the conflict, not to make peace. Targeted killings will be a big part of that

Lander, Israel did not kick off a high tech terrorist attack against Palestians - what they did was a calculated strike against the leader who was consistently ordering attacks against them - what the Palestinians are doing is blowing up restaurants with innocent people in them - the Palestians are not going after strategic militray posts or people or Sharon - they are jsut trying to hurt women and children at lunch - they are just trying to bring pain and suffering - Israel does not send missles into crowds hoping to kill women and children - don't get me wrong - there is blame on both sides.
